When engine loads demand full power, the system shifts seamlessly without any input from the driver and without any compromise in vehicle performance. Displacement on Demand is already available on the 2005 model year GMC Envoy XL and XUV and the Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT sport utility vehicles. By 2008, GM plans to have more than 2 million GM vehicles whose V-8 and V-6 engines include this feature. On the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency test procedure, Displacement on Demand improves the fuel economy of vehicles with V8 engines by up to 8 percent. "
